I’m sure we’ve all heard the saying “it’s bad luck for groom to see the bride on the wedding day before the ceremony. Call it superstitious or as history would have it, back when marriages were arranged, the bride and groom weren’t allowed to see or meet each other at all until they were at the altar. Fast forward to today, the first look is a huge deal. Let’s dive right into the first look and some pros and cons for our brides to be.
What is the First Look?
The first look is a moment during the wedding day when the bride and groom plan to see each other for the first time. The first look allows couples to share a special moment together in a more private setting.
Pros to the First Look
- Quality Time. The first look does allow couples to have a moment together to take it all in. Most couples don’t know this part but your wedding day is over in the blink of an eye. There’s so much happening in those 24 hours. Having a first look will slow the day a bit, alleviate the butterflies feeling, helps avoid any stress, and adds an extra layer of excitement .
- Wedding Photo Op. With having a first look, you can get plenty wedding pictures captured before hand. Especially thee moment when you both see each other. Talk about a moment lasting forever and you get to enjoy your cocktail hour along with your guests.
Cons to the First Look
- No suspense. One of the major cons to the first look is losing the suspense/momentum of a groom seeing his bride come down the aisle and/or a bride seeing her groom waiting for her at the altar. If you’re wanting the full package of having this moment with your guests looking on, the first look is not for you.
- Early Prep. While doing the first look does save time in the later day festivities, it does require more time at the start. In order to do the first look, you will have get ready earlier than if you weren’t doing the first look.
All in all, the first look will work for some couples and it won’t work for others. It’s all according to your preference and what you want your big day to be!
